immigrant’s song
it’s my wife’s favorite story
Which is probably why, among all the sermon series I’ve preached, and even though it happened when I was a much younger and very inexperienced preacher, it’s her favorite series I’ve done in over 15 years of preaching.
And so now, as our family begins a new journey together with a new church family, in a different land, with a different people, it seems right and timely to come back to this riveting and exciting story of trial, loss, pain, grief, intrigue, romance, courage, love, sacrifice, family, poverty, wealth, and community, all of it leading and pointing to our Redeemer, Jesus.
It’s going to be a wonderful journey through this story of Ruth and Redemption.
And it begins at Grace Church, God willing, on Sunday 01 May.
I’m sharing it now in no small part because of the new song just released by some of my favorite singer-songwriters, Keith and Kristyn Getty. The song is called Immigrant’s Song, and it’s about Ruth.
Enjoy!

I was a stranger
On the outside looking in
Beyond all favor
I was wandering
She was a mother
But no one to call her own
This lowly stranger
Could never disown
I said
Let me come with you we don’t have to be alone
I said
Let me come with you I will make your home my home
CHORUS
Home
I am moving on
Hope
When all hope seemed gone
Where you are is where I belong
Our home so far from home
There at the edges
Just a little grace to glean
He turned His head then
I found everything
He said
come with me you don’t have to be alone
He said
come with me I will build for us a home
CHORUS
I will rest in you beloved
Hide beneath the shadow of your wings
He’s our Redeemer
I laid down at His feet
He spread a cover of mercy over me
A moment of changing
I was not what I would be
Bound to Him
Then I am truly free
He said
come with me you don’t have to be alone
He said
come with me I will build for us a home
CHORUS
In our home so far from home
Home
