i woke again, for…
O Yahweh, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
many are saying of my soul,
“There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah
But you, O Yahweh, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the LORD,
and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for Yhwh sustained me.
I will not be afraid...
(Psalm 3:1-6a)
"What threatens to overwhelm you today?"
For David, it was the agonizing truth that his son sought to murder him.
What threatens you?
David shows us the way through:
"But you, Yahweh, are a shield about me."
We fought through the difficulties bound up in yesterday.
We laid down, and slept (mostly, or at least a little).
We awake this morning, because Yhwh ordained it, and he sustains us.
And now we must resolve to say into this day, to believe into this day:
I will not be afraid.
"This is the posture of faith. Only in this way does David's internal frenetic anxiety die away so that he can sleep in peace once more (v. 5) Self-divesting trust in God is the channel through which the deliverance and power of God may flow." (Dane Ortlund)
Salvation belongs to Yahweh,
your blessing be on your people.
(Psalm 3:8)
Yes and amen,
may his shielding, lifting, sustaining blessing be upon you today.
