Treasures in the Dark

GOD MADE ME TO DO HARD THINGS IN THE GOOD STORY HE IS WRITING FOR MY LIFE.

We’re walking through a difficult time with someone very close to us right now. And a dear friend sent along the following excerpt this morning from a book she’s currently reading.

It proved helpful.

Maybe you’re walking through something hard right now,
a hardness God has given to you,
or a hardness that someone else is carrying, and that you’ve entered into with them.

Hope this proves helpful to you too, dear reader.

When the pain feels too big, hold on. Stay tuned.

Our lives are stories that God is writing, and the plot is always moving forward. Your story is made up of chapters, many of which will be great and others that will be forgettable. And some chapters will be terrible beyond words, but that doesn't mean the big story can't be beautiful and deeply good.

Because our lives are stories, we don't have to put so much pressure on this moment. The moment may hurt so, so badly. But soon the moment will pass and the page will turn. You'll look back and understand that God made you to do hard things in the good story He is writing for your life. And once you've endured the suffering once, you will know you can do it again.

These days I understand that if I should have died, I would have died. My story wasn't over. In fact, the best chapters were still ahead of me, although I never could have believed it in the early days of my recovery. I can honestly say that the story I never would have chosen is the story I don't think I would choose to change.

If it's true for me, could it be true for you too?
