One Day
Yesterday was my first day as a fifty-five year-old
I like fresh starts. New beginnings. And in the coming year, I’m longing for new habits and fresh routines, aware that there are some things I want to change, need to change. And through all of it — over all of it — I ache to grow one step closer to Jesus in the way I spend my days, more and more aware that I’m not aware of how many I have. I mean, tomorrow could be the last one.
This fresh start called for a fresh start.
Where better, than at the beginning? The most important beginning. The beginning before all beginnings, the start that birthed all starts.
So I’ve begun to read the Story all over again.
I’m hopeful about the coming year.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.,
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” There was an evening, and there was a morning: one day.
