greatly to be praised
our hearts are restless until they rest in you
Reflect on the nature of our heavenly Father as described in the Scriptures, resting and delighting in this remarkably Good News which flows from who he is —
Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity
and passing over transgression
for the remnant of his inheritance?
He does not retain his anger forever,
because he delights in steadfast love.
He will again have compassion on us;
he will tread our iniquities underfoot.
You will cast all our sins
into the depths of the sea.
You will show faithfulness to Jacob
and steadfast love to Abraham,
as you have sworn to our fathers,
from the days of old. Micah 7:18-20
And now, having this vision of our Father in mind, pray this praise to him —
Great are you, O Father, and greatly to be praised! Great is your power, and of your wisdom there is no end. And man, being a part of your creation, desires to praise you—man, who bears about with him his mortality, the witness of his sin, even the witness that you resist the proud—yet man, this part of our creation, desires to praise you.
You move us to delight in praising you; for you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Amen.
