What Are The Fundamental Articles of Christian Faith?

Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in the Messiah, Jesus. Guard the good deposit through the Holy Spirit who lives in us. (2 Timothy 1:13-14, CSB)

Just what did the pattern of sound teaching and the good deposit look like, that Paul speaks of to his younger disciple, Timothy?

The gospel message that Paul preached and expected all Christian to adhere to looked something like this:

God is glorious; we are sinners; and Jesus the Messiah is our Savior and God. Jesus the Messiah is the Son of David and God in the flesh; he died and rose again; he ascended into heaven; he is coming again.

Salvation is by sovereign grace, according to the converting power of the Holy Spirit, through faith, not according to works. Jesus the Messiah saves us from sin, saves us for eternal life, and saves us unto holiness.

Notice that this summary touches on the Trinity, the two natures of the Messiah, the atonement, faith and repentance, justification, sanctification, and heaven and hell. The fundamental articles of the faith may say more than this, but they must not say less.
