Grow Not Weary of Discipline

correction |kəˈrekSHən|

  • the action or process of correcting something or someone;
  • a change that rectifies an error or inaccuracy.

Soak that definition in. It is pretty rare when we accept this kind of change being applied to our lives, and feel it as an act of love for our good. But the wisdom writer sees it differently. He has a God-perspective, and says this to his son about their heavenly Father:

My son, do not despise Yahweh's discipline or be weary of his reproof,

for Yahweh reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

(Proverbs 3:11-12, English Standard Version)

Of the host of things we could learn from the Fighter Verse to memorize this week, we learn this: it would be unloving of God to ignore an error (sin) in us.

So when he brings the healing change of his correction in our lives, may we embrace it as yet another sign of his love, and rejoice.
