I was catapulted into wonder this morning by the testimony of a simple man from the first century. Remembering his time with Jesus Christ, Son of God, John reflected for the benefit of all who would follow, that "...from [Jesus'] fulness we have all received, grace upon grace." (John 1:17)
This one sentence will keep your mind reeling for the rest of the day, if you let it.
Consider the fulness of Jesus.
Consider that his fulness is the source of and reason for your receiving.
Consider that his fulness is so superabundant and overflowing, you don't merely receive grace, but grace upon grace.
Consider grace, and the grace of grace.
Jesus, I stand, I stand, in awe of you!
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”)
For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known. (John 1:14-18, English Standard Version)
