Amazing Promises From Jesus This Morning

Voila_Capture147 This morning I called the staff together for some Word and Prayer. It is one of the luxuries of ministry life, and are some of my favorite parts of the week. This morning, during this busy Holy Week filled with wonderful services, we heard amazing promises from Jesus.

And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. (Luke 12:29-30, ESV)

First promise: your Father knows what you need. He knows you need food and water, so don't worry about them. Don't worry at all. Don't be like all the other people in the world who are setting their sights, desires, affections, and worries on those things. Your Daddy knows exactly what you need.

Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you. (Luke 12:31)

Second promise: when you give yourself to kingdom work - making disciples, baptizing them, teaching them all that Jesus has commanded (Matthew 28:16-20) - your Father will supply what you need. Why wouldn't he? Give yourself with reckless abandon to the mission, accomplish kingdom purposes, and he will be the ultimate supply line. He will provide all you need, because you are increasing his glory and advancing his cause.

Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Luke 12:32-34)

Third promise: the Father delights in giving you the kingdom. Don't fear that in seeking it, you will somehow not find it. If you seek the kingdom, he will give you the kingdom. It is his pleasure to do so! So, let go of everything else, which means you will be released from the hold it has on you. Sell your stuff! Give to the needy! And in so doing, gain a heavenly, eternal reward!

Friends, what could be better to hear on the morning, of the next four days, as we remember what Jesus did to bring about the kingdom? As we come together in churches all over the world to celebrate Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday. As we get out there in the streets, coffee shops, grocery stores, neighborhoods, restaurants, homes of others to invite and bring them in. As we proclaim the Good News of our King, vindicated and justified by his resurrection from the dead.

  1. Don't worry, your Father knows what you need as you are on mission this week.
  2. When you give yourself to the mission this week, your Father will give it to you.
  3. When you seek the kingdom by advancing the kingdom, your Father will - with pleasure! - give you the kingdom.

I can't wait to see the fruit that will be harvested because of our faithful witness this week.

See you Sunday!
