When Prison Becomes A Palace

My daughter Isabella shares a deeply encouraging story over at her blog today. An excerpt:

Just finished reading about the story of Perpetua. Perpetua was a young woman who was martyred in the early third century.  Authorities questioned her, asking if she worshiped the Christ. She did not deny it. They threw her into prison but in her diary it was written, “My prison has suddenly become my palace, so I want to be here than any other place.” You see she, like Paul, she took joy in the fact that she was suffering for the sake of Christ. She was told that if she denied Christ and offered sacrifice to the emperors she would be released if not she would be fed to lions. Her father and friends begged her to deny Christ telling her that He would forgive her, but she responded to them, “It will happen as God wills.”
